How it shows up
- Activity, inputs, and yields are captured on paper or in a private spreadsheet.
- Inventory in the shed and inventory in the system disagree.
- Cost per field or per lot is a winter exercise.
- Buyers and crews ask for status that exists only with a supervisor.
Why it matters
Seasonal intensity makes 'we'll enter it later' rational, until later is too late to change the plan, the crew, or the sale.
If nothing changes
- Input and labour variance is discovered after it cannot be managed.
- Traceability is reconstructed under pressure.
- The person who was in the field that week is the database.
When it is working
Capture is light enough to happen in the day. Inventory and activity update the same picture. Cost is close enough to steer, even if it is not accounting-grade until close.
Problems we commonly work on
Possible systems
- Field capture that people will actually use
- A shared picture of activity and inventory
- Integration to accounting at the grain of lots or fields you already use
Signals worth watching
- Delay from activity to record
- Lots whose cost is known before sale
- Status questions that required a phone call
Integrations
- Accounting
- Existing farm software if it already holds the official record
